LCOL at Prayer is a weekly guide for your family's daily Bible reading and prayer. It provides a Bible story, psalm, song, prayers and more, all related to the theme of Sunday's sermon and catechism lesson. It is a way for us to be Jesus' disciples, together with Him not just on Sunday, but all week long.
How do I use "LCOL at Prayer?"
“LCOL at Prayer” allows you to enjoy daily spiritual meals together with your family and our whole congregation. First, set aside a daily time. Pray and confess out loud as much from the “Order of Daily Prayer” as you are able or as your family size and ages dictate. Learn by heart the verse, catechism and hymn by repeating them together and throughout the day. In this way, we let God lead us to “confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe with our heart that God raised Him from the dead” that we may be saved.
Why?
Disciples are those who follow Jesus--and not just on Sunday. The gospels call Jesus "the bread of life" and “our daily bread.” Jesus says He is “with us always” and calls us to “pray continually.” God gave us His Word (the Bible) so we might know and follow Jesus, receiving His Holy Spirit to glorify God with our lives and prayers. When we do this, we enable God to direct and inspire our work and play.
Also, the Bible says it is vitally important to teach God’s Word continually to our children and family (Duet. 11:18ff). For this reason, the ancient church prescribed five daily “hours” of prayer and Martin Luther instructed every Christian family to set aside time to confess God’s Word and pray: morning, evening and at each meal.
